Hello!

I’m Paul, a clinical counsellor, coach, writer, and avid traveler.

The journey so far…

I’ve taken around 400 million breaths so far in this life, a few more even as I write these words, and I have been fortunate to learn a great many things along the way. I have been inspired by people and I have learned a lot about myself and about the lives of others. I’ve also failed at many things, been disappointed, and, at times, wondered what the meaning of all of this is. I have led teams of exceptionally talented people in business and coached highly creative entrepreneurs. I’ve studied Shakespeare in London, worked with gifted actors, travelled to many amazing places, and have written some words inspired by these experiences. Learning from life’s experiences and from academic studies has led me to a career in clinical counselling. This journey has also led me to this place, right here, right now, and to a place where I take great pride in helping others.

My professional background

I have an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of British Columbia and a master degree in clinical counselling from City University of Seattle. Prior to clinical counselling I worked in the corporate world as a CEO of a $2m start up and as a VP for a $7B company that traded on the London Stock Exchange. I have also spent some time in the arts working as a professional actor in Vancouver, NY, and London.

I am an avid reader, writer and I have a passion for helping people succeed in their life’s journey.

I'm a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and a current member of the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.

How I Work

My Clinical Practice

In my clinical practice I work with adults experiencing stress and anxiety, workplace stress, relationship challenges, life transitions, and those interested in finding higher purpose and fulfilment. My clinical work is currently being influenced by cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, mindfulness based stress reduction, and somatic therapy. In full transparency, there is little evidence that one approach is significantly better than the next but I would be happy to share with you why I have found these particularly effective.

My Coaching Practice

As a coach, I work with leadership teams and executives to develop strength and resilience to help manage the emotional, mental, and physical effects of working in a high demand entrepreneurial setting. Sessions can include conversations around stress, anxiety, life balance, and purpose. I can incorporate long term business planning with goals around personal health, resilience, and wellbeing. Combining business coaching and mental health support can be effective in improving health for the business and for their leaders. Being a leader is not easy - I’ve been there.
